Ron Henocq & Judith Carlton

CGP London’s founding Director, Ron Henocq, stepped down at the end of March 2015 to pursue other projects; marking the close of an impressive 30 year tenure which has seen the transformation of a vacant and neglected cafe building into a world renowned contemporary art space.

Over these thirty years, Ron’s vision has enabled thousands of artists to develop and present their work in a professional supportive environment, a wide range of emerging curators to realise their projects and generations of the local community to participate in our integrated learning and access programme.

The organisation that Ron has built delivers work of national excellence that has real local relevance. We sought to recruit an excellent candidate to take this legacy and develop it into the future.

We are delighted that Judith Carlton has been appointed as our new Director. Judith joins the team from Matt’s Gallery where, for the past four years, she has been Assistant Director. Previous to this, Judith was Gallery Manager at London’s Cubitt Gallery and Studios and has held positions at The Serpentine Galleries and Hatton Gallery, Newcastle.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be appointed as Director of CGP London.
Cafe Gallery was the first gallery space I visited when I moved to London 8 years ago; I couldn’t be more excited to be leading the organisation into its next phase.”

“I am looking forward to developing an ambitious contemporary programme which will see us working with a diverse wealth of artists at all stages of their careers to present significant bodies of new and existing work, alongside increased commissioning and public programming.”

Judith began her Directorship at the start of April 2015, leading the gallery and its two Southwark Park venues into its new era.

Ron Henocq is continues his work as an artist following on from his retrospective exhibition in September 2015 at CGP London // The Gallery. He continues to be a trustee of Autograph APB [ association of black photographers], Rivington Place, and Peckam Platform.

Ron is becoming co -Director of the charity RIVA [Residencies in Visual Art ]. He will be helping to expand its current work of placing artists in schools to include supporting other Arts organisations and artists with community links. Ron’s long-term plans also include opening a new exhibition space to specifically show works on paper from a wide range of lesser known and established artists.
