COMMUNITY //
AN EXHIBITION BY LOCAL SCHOOL CHILDREN AGES 4 – 11

PRESENTED BY CGP LONDON & INSPIRE 10

Participating Schools: Bellenden, Brent Knoll, Deptford Park, John Stainer, St Georges Southwark, St John the Baptist, St William of York.

Community is the 10th partnership exhibition between Inspire 10 (formerly Cluster 3) and CGP London. We are proud to maintain this longstanding creative commitment to our local community of school children across the borough of Southwark and Lewisham, especially during a period of great marginalisation of arts education across the UK.

It’s an essential part of the CGP ethos that people of all ages have opportunities to show work in our spaces, and are taken as seriously as the well known professional artists who also exhibit here. With the intention of sparking the minds of the youngest generation, animating their imaginations in a context that takes them seriously. Giving our neighbouring school children a professional gallery exhibition we hope to encourage them to feel that the art world is something they can be a part of too.
During the week before half term each school has the opportunity to bring the children to view the exhibition and for many children the thrill of seeing their work on display is not only exciting but such a confidence boost. The children will review and critic pieces, talk about their favourite item on display and given reasons why. During the half term the exhibition is open to the public parents, relatives and friends of the children are invited to visit the exhibition, so again the children’s sense of pride regarding their own art work and items from their school can be shared and admired.

Community champions CGP London’s core ethos of “Art for All” encouraging local artists of all ages to have equal opportunity to create and publicly exhibit their art work.
