ABOUT THE BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE
The Beautification Committee, launched by Ada Salter in 1920 played a key role within Southwark, creating many of the green spaces, mature trees and landscaping schemes that form an integral part of the Borough’s current environment and feel. At the time Ada Salter proudly proclaimed: “The cultivation of flowers and trees is a civic duty.”
